Professional Learning System

Overview

  • Program designed to help districts reduce the professional development cost associated with the new ELA textbook adoption
  • Economic incentives coupled with a professional development design that is intensive, ongoing, and connected to practice are the foundation of the pricing and service structure that supports this program
  • The pricing and professional development design of Smar²tel’s “Adoption Support Program” is intended to encourage districts to use the time created by the delay in the new ELA textbook adoption to develop literacy support teams at every school that will have the content and instructional knowledge, leadership skills, and professional developmental expertise needed to:
    • Seamlessly transition teachers to the newly adopted program
    • Help teachers convert the information acquired in the 40 hour initial training into effective classroom instruction
    • Ensure that teachers can balance and meaningfully apply instructional practices that support learning in core subject areas as well as cognitive learning skills
    • Support the implementation and continuity of district sponsored high leverage instructional practices
    • Support program fidelity by being able to help teachers learn to fully implement the rigorous, relevant content and instructional practices learned in formal training
    • Strengthen and/or build a collaborative learning environment
    • Positively effect teaching and learning

  • Internal SB 472 trainer certification allows districts
    • To have scheduling control and flexibility for all SB 472 teacher training
    • To reduce the cost of follow-on SB 472 training
    • To have expert resource to assist in program implementation

  • Services and fee are bundled as part of Smar²tel’s Strategic Partnering Option
    • Single negotiated fee that can reduce cost associated with professional development by 65% or more
    • Fee paid over the life of the contract (usually 15 months)
